The Way of Befriending:
How We Can Foster A Stronger Community of Belonging

In a time when 74% of Americans feel a lack of belonging in their local communities, the question isn’t whether we need connection—it’s how we rebuild it. Between consumerism, the lingering effects of COVID-19, and deepening divides in our society, we’ve forgotten the fundamental art of forming and nurturing relationships. This workshop offers a powerful solution: befriending. Through self-reflection, discussion, storytelling, and song, we’ll explore how courage, curiosity, and compassion can transform the way we relate to one another, strengthening our shared sense of belonging.

Led by Parfait Bassalé—consultant, singer-songwriter, and storyteller—this interactive session will help participants uncover the interpersonal dynamics that hinder belonging and offer practical tools for putting befriending into action. With a background in conflict resolution and equity initiatives, Parfait has spent his career bridging divides and fostering inclusive communities. Join us for a thought-provoking experience that will leave you not only inspired but also equipped to take meaningful steps toward a more connected, welcoming world.

Childcare is available during the event. Please sign up below if you plan to attend and indicate if you will need childcare when registering.
